John R. Oishei Foundation Awards Restoration Funding
The Graycliff Conservancy has announced funding in the amount of $300,000 from The John R. Oishei Foundation to continue the momentum of restoration for the Graycliff Estate.
"The John R. Oishei Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life for Buffalo area residents by supporting medical research, health care, education and the cultural, social, civic and other charitable needs of the community. The Foundation was established in 1940 by John R. Oishei, founder of Trico Products Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of windshield wiper systems."
Graycliff was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as the summer home for Isabelle R. Martin and her family. The landmark was purchased by the volunteer Conservancy in April 1999. Initial preservation efforts began immediately and have continued on a project by project basis, as funding allows.
Conservancy President Carol Bronnenkant noted, "The
Oishei grant will provide a tremendous boost for our campaign to restore Graycliff
to Frank Lloyd Wright’s original vision in a timely manner." The
public will have ample opportunity to see the on-site progress through an expanded
tour schedule and a wide variety of special events which are planned for the
landmark site during the 2002 season.
