Frank Lloyd Wright's Graycliff Estate To Receive New York State Funding

Governor George E. Pataki has announced State funding in the amount of $82,138 to restore the metal casement windows, steel doors and roll screens at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Graycliff Estate.  Conservancy President Carol Bronnenkant said, "We are deeply grateful for the State's generous and ongoing commitment to Graycliff's restoration.  When taken together, Graycliff and the Darwin D. Martin House offer Wright enthusiasts a compelling reason to visit the Buffalo- Niagara Region.  For this reason, restoration of these two landmarks offers significant opportunities for economic development through heritage tourism."

The metal casement windows and steel doors are rusting from water penetration and condensation.  More than sixty panes of glass are broken and will be replaced with the State funding.  Despite their current deterioration, these windows and doors are of high quality and are an integral part of Wrigh's original design.

Last year, the Conservancy received $145,000 from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund and $500,000 from the New York State Strategic Investment Program toward restoration projects at the historic Graycliff Estate.
