Graycliff Conservancy Wins Preservation Award

The Preservation League of New York State honored the Graycliff Conservancy on May 10 with a 1999 Preservation League Award at the new Christie's Auction House in New York City.  A total of nine awards were given to exemplary projects during the Preservation League's 25th Anniversary Celebration.

In selecting the Conservancy for a Preservation Award, the Preservation League noted, "The Graycliff Conservancy sprang from a grass roots community reaction to a threatened Frank Lloyd Wright-designed landmark in Derby, New York. In less than two years, the all-volunteer organization raised funds to purchase the building, completed an Historic Structures Report, and began restoration."

The Preservation League Award is the latest in a series of accomplishments for the Conservancy, which include Graycliff's designation as a New York State landmark and a listing for this architectural treasure on the National Register of Historic Places. The Conservancy purchased Graycliff on April 8 with the assistance of a grant from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund and a mortgage guarantee from the Baird Foundation.
